The ‘Sustainability Shaper’ - the South West’s ‘regional sustainable development framework’
www.shapersw.net
One of SSW’s key roles is to coordinate the 'Regional Sustainable Development Framework' (RSDF) on behalf of the South West. In 1999 Government asked all regions to produce RSDFs to guide policy and delivery. The South West’s original RSDF (a white document entitled ‘A Sustainable Future for the South West’, 2000) was redeveloped as the Sustainability Shaper website in 2006.
The Shaper is an important tool and guide which translates the national sustainable development strategy Securing the Future for the region. It exists to raise awareness, inform decision making and facilitate action on sustainability from the public, private and voluntary sectors (as well as ‘individuals’).
The Shaper includes the South West's sustainability Mission & Principles and supports action with ten Action Frameworks. Organisations can 'sign up' to the Shaper's Mission & Principles and become supporters of any of the Action Frameworks. The Shaper also includes an ‘ExChange’ where users can share their ideas.
As a ‘living’ framework the Sustainability Shaper is evolving in response to feedback, commitment and wider changes in the sustainability agenda. You can browse resources, register to receive updates about the site and sign up to the region's sustainability Mission & Principles at www.shapersw.net
