An integrated approach to planning the future – yes we can!
Embedding Sustainable
Development into the new government processes and strategy for the South West region.
Monday, 2nd March 2009, 9.45am – 3.30pm, The Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare
This was a free event (thanks to support from Defra and SWRDA).
The event included:
Guest speakers:
Key note speaker: Jonathon Porritt – Chair, Sustainable Development Commission and President, Sustainability South West - on 'The South West's recipe for a truly integrated future'
Simon Hooton - Director of Policy and Strategy, South West Regional Development Agency - on 'Turning the new regional challenge into an opportunity for sustainability'
Cllr Paull Robathan - Chair, South Somerset Local Strategic Partnership - on 'A local perspective on the art of integrating sustainability'
‘Open surgeries’: on embedding the region’s 10 sustainability principles - facilitated by Sustainability South West Board Members.
Sharing ideas on some of the BIG questions:
How can the new Regional Strategy be genuinely sustainable?
Who will provide the independent challenge on delivering sustainability?
How can local authorities and the RDA be better supported to deliver Sustainable Development?
The conference used what was gleaned from the day's workshops to input into Sustainability South West's consultation, how to embed sustainable development into new regional arrangements - post Sub National Review. Click here for the region's draft recommendations that have come out of the consultation process. You are invited to comment on the draft recommendations until 17th April, ahead of a final report being produced. Please contact us if you would like to comment.
