Jonathon Porritt, Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission and president of Sustainability South West will be announcing the region’s plans to roll out Fair Shares, Fair Choice – an initiative aimed at helping all of us choose our own ‘action plans’ to cut carbon emissions quickly and lessen the impacts of climate change. The announcement will form part of Mr Porritt’s opening address at ENVEC: Making sustainability happen, taking place at the Winter Gardens, Weston-Super-Mare tomorrow, Wednesday 4th October.
Sustainability South West (SSW), the region’s independent champion for sustainable development, will be working with government partners, business and the public to deliver the Defra-supported project over the next 18 months. SSW staff will be out ‘in force’ at the event wearing organic Fair Shares, Fair Choice t-shirts and encouraging delegates to snap up the benefits of a low carbon future.
Jonathon Porritt commented: “The South West has long been a pioneer in many aspects of sustainable development. It makes absolute sense that SSW should be taking forward Fair Shares, Fair Choice”.
Leslie Watson, SSW’s Director added: “Climate change is happening now! If we act quickly we can reduce CO2 emissions enough to avoid catastrophic impacts. Fair Shares, Fair Choice is all about helping people to see how they can live and work within their fair share of carbon. People can choose new low carbon lifestyles and explore new business opportunities as the world responds to climate change - our biggest challenge. This project will help the South West to get a head start.”
