In support of today’s May Day The Prince of Wales’s Business Summit on Climate Change, businesses are being offered free carbon coaches to help them boost their profits by creating their own Carbon Action Plans. Sustainability champions, Sustainability South West, have launched a new climate change initiative, Fair Shares, Fair Choice, and website, www.fairsharesfairchoice.com, providing tools and resources to benefit both companies and customers, with virtual characters to help users to gain ‘carbon cred.’
“Businesses can gain ‘carbon cred’ by signing up to the Fair Shares, Fair Choice initiative and taking advantage of free on-line coaching to help them create their very own Carbon Action Plan. The plans will offer businesses a choice of practical carbon cutting ideas to boost profits and benefit their customers and shareholders by getting ahead on carbon budgeting” explains Leslie Watson, Director of Sustainability South West, “Today’s challenge for business is about scoring in the new low carbon economy. Government and economic development agencies are now sharing the same action agenda on climate change which is why we have secured the backing of both the South West Regional Development Agency and DEFRA for our new initiative.”
Businesses and organisations, with their sights on profiting from the low carbon economy of the future, have already signed up to Fair Shares, Fair Choice, from Wessex Water, the South West Regional Assembly and Wiltshire County Council to the Eden Project, Exmoor National Park Authority and Bordeaux Quay. Experts and champions including climate campaigner Mark Lynas, founder of climate change model - ‘Contraction and Convergence,’ Aubrey Meyer, Jonathon Porritt, Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, Tim Smit, Chief Executive of the Eden Project and the Young Climate Change Champion for the South West, Lucy Stansfield, have already endorsed the growing project.
Leslie will join delegates on the special train travelling to the Climate Change Summit meeting at The Eden project today. She will offer attendees unique Fair Shares Fair Choice carbon cards which show what a climate safe and fair carbon share is for everyone who lives in the South West region.
