'CARBONhagen' Cards released

07/12/2009 15:44

As climate change negotiations start in Copenhagen today, everything depends on leaders agreeing a 2010 Fair Shares Fair Choice Carbon Cards deal on climate change that is both radical and fair. But what is a fair amount of carbon for UK citizens to use? Charity Sustainability South West (SSW) has helpfully calculated your ‘climate safe’ and ‘globally fair’ carbon allowance for next year at 3.80 tonnes. SSW is now distributing exclusive ‘Fair Shares, Fair Choice’ carbon cards, a handy reminder of your 2010 carbon budget.  How you choose to spend it is up to you...

Fair Shares, Fair Choice is an online campaign for individuals and organisations to ‘Sign Up’ to the principle of ‘a globally fair and safe carbon share for everyone’. The Fair Shares, Fair Choice site offers free help to people to make ‘carbon clever’ choices to reduce their carbon emissions and live within their ‘fair share’.

“A personal carbon budget gives us a realistic idea about what we each need to do to help avert the extremes of climate change - but it won’t short change the planet or those who are less well off here and in parts of the world which are being affected by climate change. It responds to the ‘I will if they will’ factor too,” explains Leslie Watson, Director of Sustainability South West (SSW), independent Champion Body for sustainable development, who co-ordinate Fair Shares, Fair Choice.

SSW’s Chair, Dr Julian Dennis, says, “MPs, members of the public, climate change experts, celebrities, public agencies, voluntary sector and business organisations are all supporting Fair Shares, Fair Choice and making climate positive choices for a more resilient future. Join in today, claim your free carbon card and ‘Sign Up’ to globally fair and safe carbon shares for all.”
No matter what the outcome of Copenhagen a fair shares approach to tackling global warming will have to be part of the solution so ‘Sign Up’ today – add your name to the supporters list at www.fairsharesfairchoice.com.
