The second South West C+ Carbon Positive Awards launched on Monday 9 February recognising and 
celebrating the businesses, organisations and community groups from across the region taking positive carbon action in their battle against climate change.
The awards are FREE to enter - but hurry, the deadline for applications is close of 31st March 2009.
If you're passionate about sustainability and believe your approach can inspire others, these are the awards for you. The eleven categories give large, small and micro businesses the opportunity to be recognised for taking a low carbon approach as well as celebrating the communities, partnerships and public organisations that have reduced their carbon footprint.
The 2009 categories include: 
• Sponsored by Wessex Water: C+ Carbon Positive Footprints - for organisations successfully cutting their carbon emissions and internally managing their carbon footprint
• C+ Carbon Positive Consumer Choices - for organisations that have reviewed their products and services and are offering consumers more low carbon choices
• Sponsored by Viridor Waste Management and South West Water: C+ Carbon Positive Cutting Edge - for organisations developing innovative carbon cutting solutions
• C+ Carbon Positive Micro - for exemplary low carbon businesses with five employees or less
• C+ Carbon Positive Communities - for communities that are successfully reducing their carbon footprint 
• Sponsored by Bristol Green Capital: C+ Carbon Positive Green Capital - for organisations in, or providing services to, the greater Bristol area that are positively influencing and impacting on climate change
Simon Hooton, Director of Policy & Strategy, South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) comments; "Last year we launched the South West C+ Carbon Positive Awards to recognise and celebrate the rich collection of environmental excellence we have in the region. We received almost 100 entries and uncovered some remarkable examples of how companies and communities are reducing their carbon emissions.
“SWRDA is committed to leading the region’s transformation to a low carbon economy and, in partnership with Business in the Community and Sustainability South West, we hope the C+ Carbon Positive Awards will recognise our most creative green businesses and communities and inspire others to increase the scale and urgency with which they are tackling climate change.”

The awards will be presented on 1 May in Bristol at The Prince’s May Day Summit.
